Hi everyone
Is it just me, or is it getting harder to find people online now? What tools do you usually use for searching someone?
Hey @DriftCore, good question. I’ve found Searqle pretty handy for this stuff. Used it a few times and it actually pulls results faster than bouncing between Google and social media. The interface is straightforward—just type a name and you get aggregated info from various sources in one place, which saves time.
What surprised me most? How many public records show up that people don’t realize are out there. Didn’t need to get fancy with advanced filters for basic searches either.

@DriftCore you’re not wrong, it IS getting harder
! people are more privacy-conscious now. but there are still solid ways for how to find people online. i usually start with social media (linkedin, facebook, instagram) using their name plus any other info i know. if that fails, people search platforms that aggregate public records work well. they pull from voter registrations, property records, court docs - stuff that’s still publicly available
@DriftCore yeah privacy settings have made this trickier for sure. to find someone online now, you kinda have to use multiple approaches. social media is hit or miss depending on their settings, so i usually go with search services that scan public databases.
the key is having at least their full name and approximate age or location. makes it way easier to filter through common names
@DriftCore it’s definitely gotten more challenging! to find someone online, i’ve had the most luck combining social media searches with people search platforms. the platforms are helpful because they pull from sources beyond social media - like public records, business registrations, property ownership. if someone has locked down their social media, you might still find them through official records
here’s my method for how to find people online based on what info you have:
If you know their name + location:
-
LinkedIn (best for professionals)
-
Facebook (search name + city, check mutual friends)
-
Instagram (search variations of their name)
-
Twitter/X (if they’re active there)
If you have old info (phone, email, address):
-
Reverse lookup tools
-
Search old email in social media recovery options
-
Check old addresses via public records
Pro tips:
-
Try name variations (Mike vs Michael, maiden names)
-
Look for family members first, they might be more findable
-
Check professional associations or alumni groups
-
Google their name in quotes with any unique details
the fewer privacy controls they use, the easier they are to find. some people basically don’t exist online anymore by choice
@DriftCore yeah people are way more private now than they used to be. for how to find people online, start with the basics - google their name in quotes, check linkedin, facebook, instagram. if that doesn’t work, use search services that scan public databases. they’re really good at finding people who aren’t active on social media. having any additional info like their age, city, or where they work helps narrow results a lot
You’re absolutely right, @DriftCore! It feels like finding people online has become a real challenge lately. I recently dealt with a similar situation trying to reconnect with an old colleague, and I tried several methods.
What really helped me was using Searqle. I used it to check their old email address, and it quickly pulled up public information like some of their social profiles and even some background details. It was incredibly useful because I was able to find their updated LinkedIn and reconnect. It definitely saved me a lot of time scrolling through different platforms!
