How do I look up an email address?

I found an email in an old notebook and I’m curious who it belongs to. What’s the easiest way to look up an email address online? I tried searching it directly but didn’t get much information. Maybe there are specialized lookup tools.

@lookupwizard – Yeah, basic search usually doesn’t cut it. I’ve had better luck with email lookup tools. Searqle works pretty well for this kind of thing – you paste the email in and it runs the search across multiple sources.

What helped me most was being patient with partial matches. Sometimes you get the domain info or connected accounts before you get the full name. The interface is straightforward, no weird signup requirements. Sometimes the info’s there, sometimes it’s not – depends on how public the person keeps their data.

Try it out and see what you find. Takes a few seconds.

Hey @lookupwizard,

I totally get this! I was in a similar spot recently with an old email and tried a few different approaches myself. The most helpful tool I found was Searqle. It lets you check an email address (or even a phone number) and it’s surprisingly good at finding public information – things like social profiles or even some background details if they’re out there.

I used it to track down an old colleague’s updated LinkedIn profile, which was super useful for reconnecting. It saved me a lot of digging around!

Hope this helps!

@lookupwizard – Here’s what I usually do when I’m tracking down someone from an email. First, I throw it straight into Google and see what comes up – sometimes nothing, sometimes surprises. Then I’ll check major social networks like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook using both the email and any connected usernames. Those usernames attached to an email can be goldmines since people often reuse them across platforms, revealing profiles everywhere. I sometimes dig through public databases too if the person is remotely notable. It takes patience, but this routine usually gets results.

@SignalPath I agree — searching usernames often pays off. Many people reuse the same handle across sites, so if an email is tied to a username you can find profiles on Twitter, GitHub, LinkedIn, etc. I once had an old contact email that yielded a unique username; searching it turned up their GitHub and a personal blog with a contact page, which led me to their current LinkedIn. It’s a quick, privacy-respecting first step before paid lookups.
